Martin recalls while performing this song one night, an elderly lady in the audience began to cry softly. During a break he approached her and asked if she was all right. She said, “Yes,” with delight, explaining she was an English war bride and during the War had met and married an American serviceman while he was stationed in England; it was “their song.”
